The Ph.D. in Electroacoustic Composition, Sonic Arts, and Intermedia Applications at the Conservatory of Foggia is an advanced program dedicated to the development of innovative methodologies and technologies in the field of electroacoustic music and sonic arts. The program is designed to train composers, performers, scholars, and researchers who are capable of innovating and conducting advanced research on electroacoustic and experimental music, also integrating other forms of art and intermedia technologies.
Ph.D. students are involved in projects that span various contexts, including artistic installations, concert seasons, cultural events, and collaborations with public and private entities. These projects aim to enhance and disseminate new music, making it accessible to a broad and diverse audience.
The Ph.D. encompasses a wide range of activities, including composition, performance, dissemination of existing repertoire, and research in related fields. Doctoral students conduct interdisciplinary research combining music, visual arts, theater, dance, and new technologies, exploring and experimenting with advanced digital technologies such as virtual reality, artificial intelligence, and computer-assisted composition.
The program also offers the opportunity to rediscover, reinterpret, and reinvent musical heritage through electroacoustic and experimental composition, with a particular focus on musical creativity in Puglia and Southern Italy. Additionally, Ph.D. students are involved in performing electroacoustic repertoires, conducting bibliographical, historical, and analytical research, and delving into extended instrumental techniques and augmented musical instruments with sensors and technological elements.
The Ph.D. promotes collaborations with musical, cultural, and concert institutions, facilitating the dissemination and performance of works created by the Ph.D. students. The Ph.D. in Electroacoustic Composition, Sonic Arts, and Intermedia Applications offers an in-depth learning experience where candidates undertake a substantial research project and complete it as an independent work, guided by one or more expert supervisors in the field. Selected research projects will contribute original insights to the research expertise of the Department in their respective field of study.
In addition to working on their research project, Ph.D. students will attend a series of training modules to support their research and will be encouraged to participate in seminars, workshops, conferences, and other events relevant to their studies.
